MEUX TRIP

A very special thank you to all of you who so kindly helped chaperone, carpool, and feed our class on the Meux Museum Trip and the the Historic Walking Tour of Fresno.  God blessed us with such beautiful weather!  It was wonderful to spend time together outside the classroom with all of you.  I appreciated your shepherding of children down the busy streets of Fresno.

PI(E) DAY

On Wednesday, the 3rd-6th graders will have fun learning about the ratio Pi, which is rounded off to 3.14 in geometry and enjoy eating some pie on the same day, March 14.  We will be doing a fun hands on activity in the afternoon to learn about this concept.  You are welcome to send a pie with your child on Wednesday in celebration!  Thank you!

SPIRIT TROPHY & BALDWIN THE EAGLE

Our class was excited to hear that we won the Spirit Contest for the month of February!  Baldwin, our school mascot, and the Spirit Trophy have come to rest in our room for the entire month of March!!  FANTASTIC JOB THIRD GRADERS!!  Keep up the spectacular school spirit for FCS!!! GO EAGLES!!!

BOX TOP CONTEST

Congratulations to Mrs. Yantis’s first grade class at Northeast Campus and to Mrs. Fraser’s third grade class at Peoples Campus for turning the most Box Top labels.  Our school raised over $1,300 through this endeavor to help with school expenses.  Thank you for your TREMENDOUS effort!  Our class looks forward to a special prize awarded to the winning classes!!

MATH

We will have a test over Chapter 7 Geometry and Measurement on Thursday, March 15.  A study guide pre-test will go home today.  Please review together and return on Thursday.

This week Fresno Christian will also be conducting 3rd quarter Benchmark Assessments in math.  Third grade benchmark assessments in math will take place on Friday, March 16.

READING

This week we will  conduct Benchmark Assessments in reading with Scholastic Reading Inventories on Wednesday and Friday of this week.

LANGUAGE ARTS / WRITING

This week 3rd Quarter Benchmark Writing Assessments on fictional narratives will be administered on Wednesday.  Third graders have spent time learning about story elements including:  describing characters, setting,  a plot with a sequence of events,  villain (someone or something that causes a problem), the conflict, and the  resolution.  Students have been busy organizing their thoughts with graphic organizers in cluster webs and story maps.  The writing process has also involved writing a rough draft, editing, revising, color coding descriptive words, similes, dialogue, beginning, middle, and ending.  These descriptive words, similes, and dialogue make our stories “come alive” in our final draft. We are also learning to self-grade according to rubric requirements.

SOCIAL STUDIES PROJECT

Our third grade class will be completing a Fresno History Board in class to display at Open House.  Students will be assigned a partner  to “share a board” with.  The information will be done separately and they will be graded on their work only.  Also, please check with your child as I will assign them to either bring in a freestanding Tri-fold board (size 36” x 48”) or a nice border for the project. These can be purchased at any school or office supply store.  These will be due on Tuesday, April 10th, when we return from Easter Vacation.

AUCTION ITEMS

Don’t forget this upcoming weekend is our annual school auction!  You still have time to donate items and purchase tickets for this wonderful event!  Another great way for everyone to help FCS at the auction is to donate a dessert.  They are not served with dinner so we count on desserts, (and pay a pretty penny for them)!  Simple desserts have sold for hundreds, even thousands, of dollars!  Serving dishes make desserts even more valuable.

Bring your desserts to the FCS gym on Saturday, March 17 , between 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM.  We will even wrap them for you!  Cookies, cakes, pies, brownies, candies, dipped items, tarts, cupcakes…every dessert will be sold!  Students will receive points for each dessert item donated.  Be sure to fill out a form for your student’s class to get credit.  Thank you for your support!!  Questions?  Call Darbee Whipple at 352-5168.

Dear Parents,

Starting this Monday, from 8:00-8:20, grades 3-6 will begin each Monday morning with a time of praise and worship as a student body in the chapel. We will still line up and drop off our things in the classroom before heading to the chapel.  Please plan to have your child here on time as we begin our week focusing on and worshiping our Lord Jesus Christ!

Over the next few weeks, as we prepare for Easter, we will look at several events leading up to Jesus’ Crucifixion and Resurrection.  He has RISEN!  Our Easter celebration will be on Friday, March 30 from 1:45-3:00 PM.  All are welcome to join us!

Thank you to Mrs. LeBlanc and to the 3rd grade parents who helped chaperone our 3rd grade field trip to the Meux Museum! I heard it was a beautiful day, and I know you all got some good exercise too!! We appreciate you!! :-)

Thank you for all your prayers for my foot! As of right now, my foot surgery is scheduled for March 30th, so I will only be out the 2 weeks after Spring Break, instead of the original 3 weeks.  Praise the Lord!!  God is good and I know the students will be in great hands!

Please come check out the class ocean platter our students made for the auction!! It is fabulous and can be yours if you are the highest bidder at the auction!!!  :-)  Also, I am once again donating a Get-A-Way-lunch with me and a student this year.  The child will be allowed to bring one friend with them as we all enjoy lunch together.  This item will be listed in the Silent Auction section and will go to the highest bidder. If you are interested in either of these items and aren’t able to attend, have someone bid for you!

Auction Items

Don’t forget this upcoming weekend is our annual school auction! You still have time to donate items and purchase tickets for this wonderful event!  We are doing a fabulous job, as you can see by looking at our class thermometer in the hallway!! Bring your desserts to the FCS gym on *Sat, 3/17, between 10AM-2PM, (we will even wrap them for you).  Cookies, cakes, pies, brownies, candies, dipped items, tarts, cupcakes…every dessert will be sold!  Students will receive points for each dessert item donated, (be sure to fill out a form for your student’s class to get credit).  Thank you for your support!! End of 3rd Quarter

Just a reminder that 3rd quarter ends this Friday. I will need all re-corrects and make-up work returned to me no later than Wednesday. Thank you!

Math

This week both grades will be having a Math test.  The Pre-test is coming home today and needs to be returned by Wednesday. 3rd grade will have their test on Division concepts this Wednesday and 4th grade will have their test on Decimals.  We have covered the main concepts in these chapters to prepare us for our benchmarks and for SAT testing, so students will only be tested on those concepts covered in the chapter.

PI(E) Day

On Wednesday, the 3rd-6th graders will have fun learning about the ratio Pi, which is rounded off to 3.14 in geometry and enjoy eating some pie on the same day, March 14.  We will be doing a fun hands on activity in the afternoon to learn about this concept.  We would love for you to send a pie with your child on Wednesday in celebration! Thank you!

Writing

Students have been working very hard preparing for our next benchmark assessment on writing a fictional narrative.  They have spent time organizing their thoughts, writing rough drafts, editing and self grading with rubrics.  We have been learning to add descriptive words, similes, and dialogue into our writing as well to make our stories “come alive”.  They will be tested this Wednesday on their writing.

Science Project-4th grade

All 4th grade students will be completing a Science project to display at Open House in May.  Science projects are being assigned this week and I have assigned students to work in pairs.  The experiment must be done together, outside of class, but the boards will be done during our science time.  They will collect their data at home, but will need to bring in rough drafts of their data as stated in the packet going home today.  Students will be typing them up during computer class.  I am going over project ideas with students, but they must choose a topic together and submit it to me by Friday, March 23 so they can begin collecting their data.  My goal is that they will select a topic that is interesting to them and then will collaborate together to complete this project.  Each group will also need to send in a freestanding tri-fold board with a nice border already attached.  These need to be purchased at a school or office supply store. The boards sold at The Dollar Tree will not fit their information.  Please read through the due dates and attached information and e-mail me if you have questions.  Thank you!

Social Studies Project-3rd Grade

Our third grade class will be completing a Fresno History Board in class to display at Open House.  Students were already assigned a partner  to “share a board” with.  The information will be done separately and they will be graded on their work only.  Also, please check with your child as I have assigned them to either bring in a freestanding Tri-fold board (size 36” x 48”) or a nice border for the project. These can be purchased at any school or office supply store.  These will be due on Tuesday, April 10th, when we return from Easter Vacation.
