Mrs. Tally – March 19, 2012

Dear Families,

Spring is in the air and we can’t wait after these past few, chilly and wet days, although we are very happy to add some more rainfall to our season’s total. We have done three of our Physical Fitness testing categories!!!!  We will complete our V-Sit and Reach in our classroom as well as the Pull -Ups outside on the bars. The children are doing a great job.

THANK YOU –  The Auction was a wonderful success!! Thank you for all your generous donations. God has richly blessed our school through your efforts.

LANGUAGE ARTS – First Graders are reading many leveled readers now which have  many words that have not been pre-taught. They must apply the phonics skills they have been learning. We will also tackle a chapter book before Easter vacation. This is so exciting for them..They are getting ready for second grade for sure.!!!! Second Graderare enjoying Harry and the Horrible Ant Invasion.

MATH – Both First and Second Grades completed their 3rd Quarter Benchmarks on Thursday..  First Graders are working on adding and subtracting 2 digit numbers, which they think is very easy. Second Graders are adding and subtracting with regrouping to 100.  They are finding it quite simple and have discovered that it is the same as regrouping to the ten’s column.  Imagine that!!!!  The chapter review for both grades will come home on Wednesday.  We will have our Chapter tests next Wednesday, March 28th.

FIVE – A DAY -  Please go over the Five A Day with your child, however you do not need to return it each week.

SOCIAL SCIENCE -  First and Second Graders are pairing up and doing a report on one of the seven continents. Most groups have finished their text and are putting the finishing touches on their poster. We will present this week. They have had fun with this activity.

BIBLE - We will continue on the events leading up to Easter, focusing especially on the Last Supper.

NEATNESS -  We continue to focus on making our work neat and keeping our desks organized. I appreciate your support in this area as we together emphasize how important neat work and organization is.  Many thanks!

SECOND GRADERS - There will be no skill sheets or Book Projects for the month of March. Our speeches will start on Friday, March 23rd and continue through next Thursday, March 29th. The children may dress in costume if they wish and bring a food that represents their country. These suggestions are optional and not a requirement.
