Language Arts:

This week in reading we will pick back up in our reading groups. The students will continue learning about main characters, setting, and fluency. Its very important to practice reading at home each night. A great way to practice fluency is to give your child a book to read. Set the timer and see how fast they can read it. Continue timing them on the same book each night, and try and get them to beat their previous time. Its fun to have a little competition with yourself and build confidence when they see their own improvement. In writing we will soon begin learning the key word outline. Students will learn how to pick out important words in a sentence. They will then be able to retell what their paragraph was about based on their keyword outline.

Math:

In math we will be starting a new chapter on Geometry and fractions. We will be doing work in identifying spheres, cylinders, cubes, rectangular prisms, cones, pyramids, triangles, circles, squares, and rectangles. We will also be learning fractions such as  1/2,  1/3,  and 1/4. Vocabulary that will be covered includes “corner, solid shape, plane shape, and symmetry. Recognizing shapes can help children solve spacial problems!

Science:

Our class is having a wonderful time learning all about the different plants and animals in the rain forest and the layers in which they live. At open house they will see our classroom transformed into a rain forest jungle!

openhouseOPEN HOUSE –  The Fine Arts Festival will take place May 6th from 6:30-9:00pm! The kids can not wait for you to see our room transformed into a rainforest jungle!

TN_BMX-1BMX Bike Show: Our BMX bike show for the chocolate fundraiser will be held this Thursday during school from 10:30-11:30. The kids LOVE watching these guys fly through the air doing amazing tricks!!

Collections will take place in the Building 6 parking lot next to the HS/JH building. Following Max’s example of faith and determination we can donate to help others. The BloodCenter will be giving away T-shirts and coupons to each donor.  For donation information, see the Blood Center website.
