Hello Families!!! I hope everyone day a good weekend! I just love spending time with my family! Since this week is a short week we have a short news letter 🙂
Please note that the week we come back from Thanksgiving break is Benchmark week. Students will be tested on reading, writing, and math. Please continue to keep up on these things over the break.
Thank you to those who are helping bring food for our Thanksgiving feast! Our feast will take place Monday starting around 11. Parents may come after recess to help set up if you would like. Please remember that this feast is for the students only. We are only asking enough food for the class.
Language Arts: I will still do my reading groups on Monday focusing on fluency, comprehension, setting, and main characters. Please continue to have your child read everywhere you go! Ask them questions about the stories they read to help with comprehension.
Math: We are continuing on in chapter 6 with addition and subtraction concepts.
Social Science: We will be learning about pilgrims and Indians to prepare for our thanksgiving program.
Spelling Words: NO SPELLING
Bible Verse: NO BIBLE VERSE
Thanksgiving Unit – We are learning about immigrants in Social Science and the contributions they have made to America. Among the immigrants we study are the Pilgrims who sailed from England. We will culminate our studies with a Thanksgiving Program with the Kindergartners. First Graders are the Pilgrims and the Kindergartners are the Indians. The boys should wear white shirts and dark pants and the girls should wear a dark dress or a skirt with a white blouse or shirt. Second Graders will be Americans. If you do not have these clothing items, please do not go out and buy anything. Just wear the closest thing you have. It will be just fine. The program will be on Tuesday, November 2rth at 10:45 A.M. at Student Ministries Center. Please do not enter the building until 10:30 because the high school students will be in there cleaning up. There is school in the afternoon, however, your child is free to go after the program to begin their Thanksgiving vacation. For those who stay, we will be having a fun friday afternoon. If you know your child will not be here for the program, please let me know, as that will be helpful in preparing the groups for our program. Thanks!
Christmas Traditions Poster – We will be celebrating Christmas around the world in December. Students will be making a poster depicting their family Christmas traditions. This can be magazine cut outs, pictures, or drawings from your child. You can find poster boards at stores such as Walmart, Target, Longs, Dollar Tree, and Rite-Aid. The children will be making their traditions poster at home and sharing it at school. It will be due during the week of Dec. 2-6. Your child can bring it on any of those days and we will share in the afternoons. Be looking for a note in their take home folders in regards to this assignment.
Operation Christmas Child – Grades K-6 were able to help deliver the operation Christmas child boxes and pray over them before they were sent off. It was so great for the little ones and the high school students to come together!!
Together we CAN!
Once again we have the privilege to help the families of Pinedale this Holiday season! We will be collecting CANned food Nov. 12th thru Dec. 6th to distribute through the Pinedale Book Buddies program. Our High School students are already volunteering as Book Buddies and we would like to continue our support for their programs. Our delivery this year will help families by providing food for Christmas. Pinedale resource leaders put together a list of items most used in the community (see back of flyer sent home). Please make sure to check this list before you shop. There will be a prize awarded to the classes that bring the most items (1 prize for grades K-3, and 1 prize for grades 4-6).
If you are interested in making a financial donation, please send cash/check to the office and designate “Food – Pinedale.” We have a program with Food Maxx where we use scrip & S.H.A.R.E.S. so FCS also benefits!
