Elementary Students Visit City Council
Giving our students a meaningful glimpse into what it looks like to lead, serve, and participate in their community

As Fresno Christian elementary students walked into Fresno City Hall, their eyes widened as they saw men and women in suits heading to their local government jobs.
Students exchanged excited whispers as they took their seats in the council chambers and were warmly greeted by Fresno Mayor Jerry Dyer.

Several students opened the council meeting with prayers and were then joined by their classmates singing a song for everyone in the council chambers.
One student shared,
“My favorite part was praying in front of everyone . . . It was a privilege.”
Councilman Nick Richardson, in whose district Fresno Christian Schools is located, initiated the visit.
He greeted students upon arrival, gave them a tour of the offices and the “backstage” areas of the City Council Chambers, shared what his role entails, and answered students’ questions about what it’s like to work in local government.

This experience was so impactful, one student said,
“When I grow up, I may run for city council… but I might just head straight for president.“
Field trips like this bring learning to life. Students begin to see that the roles they study are held by real people, and that one day, they could step into those roles themselves.
Whether they fill city council seats, classrooms, or boardrooms, these students will be equipped to lead with wisdom, conviction, and faith.
