Dear Parents,

We are at the end of the first quarter and I’m including some information to help you better understand the subject area scores on Gradebook.

Testing

Scores will continue to be entered through this Friday, October 10.

Reading Writing Connection: Character Analysis

Students are working on character analysis as our response to literature. I posted instructions on a take home assignment in a previous newsletter on the FCS website newsletter connection. I also gave each student these instructions in a hard copy. It will be due on Friday, October 10.

Reading Comprehension:

During the course of the first quarter we completed and corrected worksheets titled Jumpstart Reading. The students have taken several of these as tests that have been graded and posted. Additionally, they are taking other reading comprehension tests. These will continue to be graded and posted on Gradebook.

SRI:

Please note that students are now able to take an SRI inventory for a lexile score. Students can take tests on computers that are available on a mobil lab in class. I will give this grading weight accordingly. Remind your student to give his/her best effort.

Language/Writing:

Students need to have these assignments turned in:

Onomotepeia- Using sound words in a paragraph (homework)

Adjectives- Describe a busy street scene (in class assignment)

Book Jacket- Book summary (project as homework)

Personal Narrative- (assigned in class or homework)

Extra – Write a summary of what you learned in Social Studies so far.

Science

No science first quarter. Students will receive instruction in Science quarter 2.

Social Studies

Two open book tests that cover all the lessons in Chapter 1 and lesson 1 Chapter 2. Students read and discussed lessons in class and answered questions orally. Students took a practice open book test with help in class. No grade was given. A second open book test was given students worked independently on this. This grade will be entered this week. A second test will be given Monday, October 6.

Bible:

In Bible, the students need to turn in worksheets accumulated during the first quarter as a workpacketHeroes of Faith.” Students can ask me for any missing worksheets. Most students have all the sheets in their Bible folders in class as nothing was sent home. This will be heavily weighted towards their final grade. The packet needs to be complete and neat. We will be putting all the work together in class to turn in Monday, October 6.

Memory Verse this week

Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes Him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life.
