We Are One: Growing in Christ

FCS Academic

Dear Parents,

The first quarter concludes Friday, Oct. 11th.  Grades will be finalized and posted next week on Tuesday, October 15 for your printing purposes. Please check your child’s grades on Powerschool this week to see if they are missing assignments.

A NOTE FROM MRS. AINLEY FOR CHOIR PARENTS:

The elementary and JH choirs will be singing the National Anthem at the HS football game on Friday, October 11. Students will wear their music T-shirt and jeans (or other in-dress code shorts/skirts). The music T shirt will be here Tuesday. If your child is participating in the cheer clinic, they may wear their cheer outfit. We will meet in the music room (in the FC gym) at 6:30 for warm up, then sing right before the game begins at 7:00. The children are free to go after that.

FUNDRAISER PICK-UP:

The Fall Fundraiser was a terrific success. Thank you for all your hard work. You can pick up the  items that you sold on Thursday, October 10th from 2:30-5:30 behind Building 5. Please be sure to make appropriate plans as there is no space to put the items not picked-up.

PICTURE RE-TAKE DAY:

Tuesday, October 8, 2013 the photographer will be back one last time for any students who were absent, not satisfied with their original purchased package, or did not get to purchase on Picture Day.  If you are retaking an original order, you must return your complete picture package for a new one or you may not be photographed.  No retakes for CD orders.  Pictures will be taken for school records, yearbook, and portrait package.  Order forms are available in the School Office.

FALL FESTIVAL:

The FCS fall festival will take place on October 19th from 12:00 PM-3:00 PM on the North Field.   Bring your blanket or chairs and come enjoy the food and fun!

ELEMENTARY CHEER CLINIC:

This week the elementary cheer clinic begins. Practice is on the North field grass from 3:30-4:30. The girls will be learning cheers, a dance, and stunting. The girls will get their shirts on Thursday for Friday night’s game. Please do not have your daughter wear her clinic shirt to school on Friday.

WRITING:

Students will write the 1st Quarter Benchmark Writing Assessment this week: Response to Literature.

READING:

Students will read a book from a different genre each month. Class time will be given every day for silent reading and students are expected to read a minimum  of 10 pages a day. If they are unable to complete this in class, then reading becomes homework. The genre for the month of October is science fiction. Students should show their selected science fiction book to me for approval.

MATH:

The 5th grade will take the Chapter 2: Addition, Subtraction and Equations test on Wednesday, October 9. The 6th grade will continue Chapter 2: Data Analysis and Statistics.

SOCIAL STUDIES:

This week we time travel back to Ancient Egypt!

BIBLE:

We continue our study of the Bible, focusing on the Books of Poetry: Psalms, Proverbs and Job.

BIBLE MEMORY VERSE:

The memory verse for this week is John 5:24 and the test will be this Friday, October 11. Students will be graded on writing the verse accurately, including correct wording, spelling, grammar and the scripture reference.

Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes Him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life.
