ORAL INTERPRETATION POEMS: 

Students should now have their poems memorized with voice expressions and hand gestures included. Students will recite their poems  in class this Friday, January 24  (no parents allowed). Finalists will present their poems in the Grades 4-6 Oral Interpretation Assembly  on Monday, January 27th from 1:30-2:45 in the Peoples Church North Lobby Chapel (families invited).

SPELLING BEE:

Congratulations to the following students who will represent our school at the non-public schools spelling bee this Saturday, January 25: Anjeli Macaranas, Janae Shew, Vijay Stephen, Isaac Hwang, Sophia Buchok, and Rayleigh Gong.

KIDS’ CLUBS:
Attention Parents! Kids’ Clubs are fun lunchtime activities led by parent volunteers. PTF is looking for volunteers to lead a club or help lead a club during the spring season. New this school year, sweet treats for the classroom with the most parent volunteers in Kids’ Clubs! Please contact PTF Kid’s Club coordinator, Jennifer Dansby, at 681-4605 or jenniferdansby@sbcglobal.net, if you have questions or would like to volunteer. Volunteer sign-ups are due by Friday, January 24th. Thank you!

WRITING:

Students will write fictional narratives during the third quarter, focusing on story elements such as characters, setting, villain, conflict, rising action, climax and resolution. The dialogue between two famous people (dead or alive) is due this Friday, January 24.

READING:

The required reading for January will be a genre of the student’s choice. Students will write a Response to Literature which is due on Friday, January 31. Class time will be given every day for silent reading and students are expected to read a minimum  of 10 pages a day. If they are unable to complete this in class, then reading becomes homework.

MATH:

The 5th grade will continue Chapter 5: Measurement and Integers.  The 6th grade will continue Chapter 4: Operations with Fractions.

SCIENCE:

There will be a test this Wednesday on the digestive system. The students have handouts from which to study. This week we will focus on the circulatory system.

BIBLE: We continue Unit 4 which focuses on Gospel Writings: Jesus’ Birth and Early Ministry.

BIBLE MEMORY VERSE:

The memory verse for this week is 1 John 5:14 and the test will be this Friday, January 24. Students will be graded on writing the verse accurately, including correct wording, spelling, grammar, punctuation and the scripture reference.
