PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES:
Elementary conferences are scheduled for the week of Feb. 4-7. School is dismissed at 12:00 PM each day during that week. Please return your conference confirmation as soon as possible and if you need to reschedule, please call Mrs. Roberts at 292-7704 – ext 103. I look forward to sharing with you the mid-year assessments and the progress your child has made.
SPELLING BEE:
Congratulations to the following students who represented our school at the non-public schools spelling bee on Saturday, January 25: 6th graders Anjeli Macaranas and Janae Shew, 5th graders Vijay Stephen and Isaac Hwang, and 4th graders Sophia Buchok and Rayleigh Gong. Special congratulations to Janae Shew for finishing in 3rd place and Anjeli Macaranas for finishing in 1st place! Anjeli will represent our school at the Fresno County Spell-Off in March!
STATE OF THE SCHOOL ADDRESS :
Superintendent Debbie Siebert will hold the fourth annual State of the School Address on January 27th at 7:00 PM in the G.L. Johnson Chapel. As a school community it is beneficial for everyone involved to have a clear understanding of how well we are meeting the mission of Fresno Christian Schools. Along with reporting on the school program, Mrs. Siebert will present information regarding the financial picture of our school.
ORAL INTERPRETATION POEMS:
All students did a fantastic job with memorization and presentation of a selected poem. Congratulations to Brittany McCann, Hadarah Kok, and Caleigh Alday for being the judges top three from our class who will present their poems in the Grades 4-6 Oral Interpretation Assembly on Monday, January 27th from 1:30-2:45 in the Peoples Church North Lobby Chapel. Families are welcome to attend this assembly.

BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION:
We are nearing the end of our 2013/14 Box Tops for Education promotion. There are 3 more Fridays left to turn in Box Tops. The last day to hand in Box Tops is Friday, February 14. Each Box Top collected is worth cash for our school. As an incentive we will be having a class contest. The class bringing in the most Box Tops at the end of this promotion will receive a “prize.”
January Standards Overview-
Communication folder (blue)-Student will continue to place daily work and assignments in their communication folders. Graded work will continue to go home on Mondays. All students will need to utilize a planner to record weekly assignments. This will allow you the opportunity to check in on the work assigned.
Writing-During this third quarter, students will learn how to write creative short stories by using the Excellence in Writing techniques. In February, students will become Young Authors and create their own stories. Standards: L05W1.1 – Multiple-paragraph narrative compositions, L05W1.1.a – Establish and develop a situation or plot, L05W1.1.b – Describe the setting, L05W1.1.c – Present an ending
