Dear Parents and Students,

The first quarter concludes Friday, Oct. 11th.  Grades will be finalized and posted the following week on Tuesday, October 15 for your printing purposes. Please check your child’s grades on Powerschool this week to see if they are missing assignments.

FUNDRAISER PICK-UP: 

The Fall Fundraiser was a terrific success. Thank you for all your hard work. You can pick up the  items that you sold on Thursday, October 10th from 2:30-5:30 behind Building 5. Please be sure to make appropriate plans as there is no space to put the items not picked-up.

PICTURE RE-TAKE DAY:

Tuesday, October 8, 2013 the photographer will be back one last time for any students who were absent, not satisfied with their original purchased package, or did not get to purchase on Picture Day.  If you are retaking an original order, you must return your complete picture package for a new one or you may not be photographed.  No retakes for CD orders.  Pictures will be taken for school records, yearbook, and portrait package.  Order forms are available in the School Office.

FALL FESTIVAL:  

The FCS fall festival will take place on October 19th from 12:00 PM-3:00 PM on the North Field.   Bring your blanket or chairs and come enjoy the food and fun!

HUME LAKE FOR 6TH GRADERS:

Thank you for taking the time to complete the Hume Lake registration form. An overview of the camp week went home with your 6th grade child last week. Please review the items that students should and should not bring to camp. A special thank you to parent chaperones and carpool drivers!

Proverbs 26:20 – Without wood a fire goes out; without gossip a quarrel dies down.

Math:  Unit 2-integers: add, subtract, multiply, divide plus equations continued. 

Along with our daily lessons, we will incorporate number talks and estimations to help us understand math in the real world!

Science:  We will complete the first quarter science study this week with an art project. PLEASE HAVE YOUR CHILD COLLECT 5-10 FRESH LEAVES AND PLACE THEM IN A BAG TO BRING TO SCHOOL ON MONDAY.

Reading;   Students will be guided on how to create a newspaper as a response to reading. This is a homework assignment. The rubric for this project was passed out last week. The paper is due Oct. 30th. Please remember that students may also take Reading Counts quizzes online at our FCS website!  Whole class reading will be performed in literature group studies and directed teaching beginning this week.
