Dear Parents and Students,
Welcome back 6th grade! We are looking forward to hearing about your outdoor education and personal testimonies of experiencing the love of Jesus during camp week.
OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD:
Operation Christmas Child brought smiles to the faces of 7.7 million poor, sick and suffering children in more than 100 countries last year through shoeboxes filled with school supplies, hygiene items, toys, candy and other small gifts. But these boys and girls received something even more important than a Christmas present. They also leaned about the greatest gift of all—God’s son, Jesus Christ.
Each year, Operation Christmas Child delivers millions of shoebox gifts to children in desperate circumstances around the world. In addition to bringing happiness to boys and girls who other wise wouldn’t receive any presents, this exciting project of Samaritan’s Purse also opens doors for presenting the Good News of Jesus Christ. Through children’s literature and evangelistic programs, many lives are changed for eternity.
We would like to invite you to join us this year as we again reach out to boys and girls in the Name of Jesus Christ. Our goal is to collect 250 shoeboxes at Fresno Christian Elementary by November 7 for children who face a daily struggle against war, persecution, disease, natural disaster, poverty, illness, or neglect. Pray that God will meet their physical, emotional and spiritual needs.
SHOE BOXES ARE AVAILABLE FOR PICK-UP IN THE ELEMENTARY OFFICE.

WRITING:
We have started Persuasive Maps. Students are utilizing an online design through ReadThinkWrite. Students will be given several topics and taught how to write a persuasive response with reasons and examples. I find that students enjoy the technique of persuasion!
READING:
We will continue the teacher read aloud of the historical literature of The Cay. This novel takes place during World War II. A young boy is shipwrecked with an islander. The story unfolds as we learn the character of this island man named Timothy. He has a heart like Jesus. This story will touch the heart of all students.
Independent Reading: Students are reading their own choice of a historical fiction. They are to create a newspaper, one page, with the proper components as shown on the Historical Fiction Rubric.
MATH:
Students will begin a review and new unit on Fractions. An assessment (not graded) will be given on Monday so that I can see the skill set of each student. For those who master the assessment at 90% or greater, I will provide additional critical thinking and skills to their unit.
SOCIAL STUDIES:
This week we travel back in time to Ancient Israel. We will begin studies of The Hebrews using the Hartcourt Mifflin educational expository text.
BIBLE: Last week we studied Paul’s writings on The Gift of Love. This week we will continue our study in Corinthians.
BIBLE MEMORY VERSE:
The memory verse for this week is 2 Corinthians 5:17 and the test will be this Friday, October 25. Since this is a short verse, students will be graded on writing the verse accurately, including correct wording, spelling, grammar and the scripture reference.
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!
